AUGUST 11 REPORT: SUMMARY OF CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED ON AUGUST 10

In Men’s Masters Division I, Rusty Red won their fourth Summit championship with a 10-4 win over first time finalist Raymour & Flanigan. Rusty’s Steve Sombrotto was named MVP and Raymour goalie Joe Solomon received the sportsmanship award. In a battle between the 2007 finalists, Brown State beat Sailin Shoe 11-7 to take third place.

In a very deep Women’s Open Division, Laxified repeated as Summit champion by defeating the Legends 13-7. Laxified’s Jen Adams was named game MVP and the Legend’s Katlyn McCormack received the sportsmanship award. Mass Elite defeated Granite St. Elite 12-6 to take third place.

Men’s Open Division II featured two first time finalists as Team Bass Mass-ter defeated the Roadhawks 8-6 to take the title. Bass Mass-ter’s Gerhard Buehning was named MVP and Jay Strombusky of the Roadhawks received the sportsmanship award. The third place game between Buffalo Soldiers and Sothoron homes was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Men’s Grand Masters Division I title game featured defending champion Sloe Moes and first time finalist Essian. Sloe Moes defended their title with an 8-5 win and Chris Guttilla was named MVP. Essian’s Richard Shassian received the sportsmanship award. Sloe Moes run to the title featured multiple overtime games including a six overtime semi-final win over Greene Turtle who took third place with an 11-3 win over the Geezers.

In the Men’s Open Division I, Forsyth & Forsyth and Raymour & Flanigan were named co-champions when adverse weather conditions forced the postponement of the championship game.  The Masters Division II final featuring a re-match of 2007 finalists Team Long Island and the Rhode Warriors, received a similar fate and the teams were named co-champions. This was the first time in the nineteen year history of the tournament that a tournament championship game could not be played because of inclement weather.

PAST MASTERS GAME SCHEDULED!

We are pleased to announce the second annual "Past Masters" game featuring lacrosse players who will be 60 years old by the end of 2008. The game will be played on Saturday, August 9 at 11:30 AM on field NEAF-5. The rules will be identical to the Super Grand Masters Division. YOUTH TOURNAMENT POSSIBLE IN 2009!

We are considering starting a youth tournament in 2009 either in conjunction with the adult tournament or on the weekend before. The tournament would be designed for elite boys and girls developmental teams at the U-18 and U-15 levels. Let us know what kind of interest might be out there as we begin our planning.

PLAYERS LOOKING FOR A TEAM?

With a 95 team field, we cannot actively help individual players find teams to connect with. However, the list of team contacts can be viewed on our forms page and players looking can send out inquiries on their own.

INTERESTED IN BEING PLACED ON THE TOURNAMENT WAIT LIST?

Most divisions in the tournament have a short wait list. There is very little attrition from year to year but several teams do get invited off the wait list every year. In addition, there will be some modest growth in a couple of divisions this year so there are immediate opportunities for wait listed teams. To add your team to the wait list, send an e-mail to info@lakeplacilax.com and be sure to specify which division of play you are interested in.
