Dan Spillett Award

The Dan Spillett Award

Dan Spillett

The Lake Placid Summit is proud to honor Dan Spillett, a long-time participant in the tournament by making an annual award that recognizes Dan's many years of determination and perserverance in the face of complex personal challenges and obstacles. Dan finally succumbed to his illness in 2005, and this award, which was established in 2004, will be presented annually to that Grand Masters player that best exemplifies Dan's tenacity, determination, perseverance and positive attitude both on and off the field during the tournament.

2009 Winner - Bob Deegan

Bob Deegan is joined by Dan Spillett's family: (from left) daughter Sara, wife Julie and son Brandon and the late Paul Rose, a former Spillett Award winner.

The Spillett Award was presented to Bob Deegan in 2009. Bob has been an assistant varsity lacrosse coach at West Genessee HS and has been there through 13 state championships. He started working at WG in 1978 and has coached freshman football ever since. Bob currently teaches Earth Science at WG. He played lacrosse at Cortland State and was a member of the 1975 NCAA Div II-III Championship team. He has been married to his wife Susan since 1979 and for a good part of those years they have celebrated their anniversary in Lake Placid. They have a son Bryan and a daughter-in-law Christy and their first grand daughter Ava is now a little over a year old. Their daugther Maggie teaches elementary school in Jordan Elbridge. Bob has played for many years in Lake Placid with the Legends and was a former teammate of Dan Spillett.
